South El Monte Veterans Honor Roll

South El Monte veterans, who have honorably served our country, please come forward and be recognized. The City of South El Monte is in the process of implementing a Veterans Honor Roll to recognize and pay tribute to South El Monte residents who have served in the Armed Forces during a time of war. The honor roll will be made available on the City's website.

ASIAN TIGER MOSQUITO UPDATE
Public Plays a Critical Role

After one year of intensive surveillance and control efforts directed at an infestation of Asian tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus), the population continues to persist. This introduced species was first identified in September of 2011 in the cities of El Monte and South El Monte. While the area of the infestation has not expanded, additional properties continue to be found. To date, Asian tiger mosquitoes have been identified on approximately 240 properties in the two-city area.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Energy Efficiency Climate Action Plan

SCE awarded funding to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments to develop a regional framework and energy efficiency climate action plans for San Gabriel Valley cities. South El Monte is participating in this process to assist in meeting the City's goal and the regional goals of AB 32, SB 375 and long-term energy efficiency.

AB 341 Mandatory Recycling Program

As of July 1, 2012 all businesses and multi-family complexes with 5 or more units within the City of South El Monte will be required to take action to reuse, recycle, compost, or otherwise divert commercial solid waste from disposal. The actions that need to be taken are explained on the attached flyer, and will be taken care of by Athens Disposal Company. The city will have oversight of the recycling program to make sure each business is in compliance with the new ordinance.
